How To Create An Office Space In Your Apartment

If you are used to going to an office every day, working from home can be a tough adjustment and can feel overwhelming. Luckily, it doesn’t have to be! There are steps that you can take to decrease that hectic feeling. Give yourself the space to help you be productive and achieve your goals!

The perfect area is key
Finding the perfect area to work is the first step in ensuring that you adjust to working from your home. Try to find an area that does not have a lot of distractions and is quiet so you are able to focus on your tasks. The temptation to watch TV or scroll on your phone may be bigger now more than ever. This is why getting away from those things the best you can will help you in the long run. Now, of course, if you have children this can be a little more challenging, but finding an area where there are enough activities for your kids to help keep them occupied while you get some work done is important.

Give yourself enough space
You need to establish a work station that has enough room for everything that you will need. Whether it is a desk or your dining room table, be sure to have everything within reach in case you need to access it quickly but make sure it is not too crowded where you are unable to work comfortably. You will be sitting in this area for 40+ hours a week so your comfort is important.

Stick to your routine as best you can
Humans are creatures of habit and routine. While some people handle being thrown off their routine well, others do not. Even though you are not in the office, it does not mean that you cannot stick to your schedule that you followed previously. Wake up, eat lunch, take your break at the same time so that you are able to feel some type of normalcy and control. Anything you would do on a normal work day in the office, try to find a way to do it at home. This may help ease any anxiety you are feeling and will make the transition back into the office an easier one.

Communicate with your co-workers
If you are accustomed to seeing your co-workers each day, it is easy to miss their presence. Try to chat with those whom you are closest to each day. Ask how things are going, about their weekend plans, or about their families. Not only does it bring back that feeling of normalcy, but it’s always nice to chat with a friend. You know what they say, “Distance makes the heart grow fonder.” Whenever there is a need at work that requires the assistance of a coworker, it was always easiest to walk over to their desk and resolve. You may find yourself waiting for a response but remember to try and be patient. Everyone is trying to adjust and figure out their own routines and schedules as well.

Find your balance
When you work from home, your home becomes your workplace. It can be difficult to find that work/life balance. Take some time to reflect on your schedule and set what times are dedicated to work and which times are solely for you and your family. That line may be a little blurred at the moment, but it's healthy that you keep that balance and prioritize it.

One of the most important things to remember is that we are all in this together. Everyone is dealing with the sudden changes that each day brings but we must do our best to adapt and make it easier on ourselves. Following these steps and finding that place for you to dedicate to yourself and your work is important in ensuring your success!
